Local Movers in Glenview, IL
Local moves here are billed by the hour. One coordinator runs your move from inventory to delivery, and nobody hands it to a broker halfway through. Sarah put it in two words in her Google review: "No upcharging." Leaving Illinois instead? That's a long-distance move, with a binding estimate off a walkthrough and the delivery window in writing.
Local moving
What a Glenview Move Actually Involves
Start with the address, because it can fool you. Glenview has two ZIP codes, 60025 and 60026, and the village spreads across three townships: New Trier, Niles and Northfield. On the west side, a Linden Avenue or Protection Parkway address can sit outside the village line in unincorporated Northfield Township, while Sanders Road at Northfield Woods is inside it. Outside the line, you call your township about garbage, the village's Groot contract doesn't cover you, and township rules can override village code.
Inside the village, Groot picks up for single-family homes and duplexes. Townhomes with three or more attached units aren't on that contract unless the HOA applies to join. Move-week trash goes to the curb after 7 p.m. the night before pickup. Everything outside the cart has to stay under one cubic yard in total, and no single piece can top 50 pounds. A heavy dresser needs a Groot bulk pickup instead.
Winter is the other trap. If you're moving out between December 1 and March 31, finish in one day, because a loaded truck parked on a Glenview street between 2 and 6 a.m. is breaking the village's overnight ban. That ban covers every public street in the village. Downtown has its own limits too: Railroad Avenue, Glenview Road and Waukegan Avenue carry two-hour parking from 8 a.m. to noon, and since January 2026 the village posts its downtown and Glen Town Center rules as parking maps.

Glenview and Neighboring Communities
Most of Glenview sits in Northfield Township. The township also takes in most of Northbrook, the west three-quarters of Northfield and the unincorporated community of Techny. Des Plaines, one of the six towns on our Google listing, has its north edge in the township, mostly forest preserve. The Glen fills the old Naval Air Station, which closed in 1995 and became 1,121 acres of homes, offices and shops. That's about 15 percent of the village. The Park, settled in 1894, is one of the oldest corners. Moves between Glenview and Arlington Heights, Palatine, Schaumburg, Des Plaines, Mt Prospect or Buffalo Grove are billed by the hour.
Before you book
Worth Knowing Before Moving in Glenview
- New to the village? Call Groot at (847) 734-6400 to set up garbage and recycling service.
- Old fridge or washer staying behind? Appliances need a scheduled Groot pickup, and Illinois law keeps electronics out of household trash.

Water, Carts and Parking After You Land in Glenview
Water and sewer go through the Resolution Center at (847) 724-1700, which also checks that a final water read is on the calendar.
No carts at the new house? If the last owner took them, call the village to order new ones, then open your account with Groot.
No driveway? Households without off-street parking can apply for an on-street permit for 30 days or more, and shorter requests go to the Police Department at (847) 729-5000. Either way the truck needs a legal spot, so check the posted signs where it will stand.
Glenview's Metra station on Depot Street is on the Milwaukee District North Line, 17.5 miles from Union Station, and Amtrak stops there too. Those long Amtrak stops hold up traffic on Glenview Road, so leave slack if your route crosses the tracks.

How to Vet Local Movers for Glenview
- Townhome with three or more attached units? It's outside the village's Groot contract unless the HOA applies. Ask the HOA about move-out trash.
- Unincorporated address just outside Glenview? Township rules can override village code, so ask before you plan parking.
- Name your heaviest piece when you call and ask how many people it gets.
- Ask if the estimate comes from a walkthrough.
FAQ
Questions About Moving in Glenview
How much do movers cost in Glenview?
Local moves in Glenview are billed by the hour. Tell us about the basement, the stairs and the heavy pieces up front, and call for a free estimate.
My address says Glenview. Am I in the village?
Maybe not. Some Glenview-addressed streets on the west side, around Linden Avenue and Protection Parkway, sit in unincorporated Northfield Township. Sanders Road at Northfield Woods is inside the village. The village's own handbook says township rules can supersede village code in unincorporated areas, so check before you book trash or a dumpster.
Can the moving truck stay on the street overnight in Glenview?
Not from December 1 through March 31. Overnight parking is banned on every public street in the village between 2 and 6 a.m. in that stretch. For overnight requests under 30 days, the village says to call the police department at (847) 729-5000. Our advice: finish the move in one day.
What do I do with all the boxes after I unpack?
Break them down into 2 by 2 foot pieces. Corrugated cardboard goes in Glenview recycling, and extras can sit next to the cart in paper bags or a cardboard box. Everything outside the cart has to stay under one cubic yard in total, so spread a big unpack over a couple of pickups.
Can I get a dumpster for a pre-move clean-out?
Inside the village, yes. Groot rents roll-off containers to residents in 10, 15, 20 and 30 yard sizes. If you're in unincorporated Northfield Township, you're outside the village's Groot contract, so call the township first.
Do you move people from Glenview to other states?
Yes. Our Google listing covers long-distance moves from Chicago to all 50 states. Out-of-state moves get a binding estimate off a walkthrough, the delivery window in writing, and one coordinator from inventory to delivery.
