Local Movers in Buffalo Grove, IL

Buffalo Grove shares its south edge with Arlington Heights, another town on our local list.

Most of the houses here went up in the 1970s and 1980s. CMAP puts 58.8% of Buffalo Grove homes in that window, with a median year built of 1981. Three in ten homes have four bedrooms, against fewer than one in five across the Chicago region. That's a lot of house to move by the hour, so walk us through the basement and garage when you call for the estimate.

What a Buffalo Grove Move Involves

Lake Cook Road splits the village. The northern three-quarters is in Lake County and the southern quarter is in Cook County, and that line follows you into school enrollment. North of it, kids go to Aptakisic-Tripp District 102, Lincolnshire-Prairie View District 103 or Kildeer Countryside District 96, then Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire. South of it, it's Wheeling District 21 and Buffalo Grove High School in District 214.

So here's our view. Inside Buffalo Grove, the side of Lake Cook Road you land on matters more than the miles. A move from one subdivision to another can be a short drive and still change your county and your kids' schools. Sort that out before you pick a move date.

Then there's Dundee Road. On September 21, 2026 the village posted that a 3.5-mile resurfacing runs from Kenicott Avenue in Arlington Heights to First Street in Wheeling, right through Buffalo Grove. Crews are replacing curbs, gutters, sidewalks and ramps, with daily lane closures while the work is on. Utility work runs into the winter and the full asphalt replacement is set for next summer. Our route to Village Hall uses only a short piece of that stretch before it turns north.

Buffalo Grove and Neighboring Communities

Buffalo Grove borders Wheeling to the southeast, Arlington Heights to the south and southwest, Long Grove to the west, Vernon Hills to the north, Lincolnshire to the northeast, and Riverwoods and Deerfield to the east. The village grew out of Al Frank's 100-acre purchase in the 1950s, where the first homes were about 1,000 square feet, then annexed subdivisions like the Highlands, Green Knolls and Windfield. Local moves between Buffalo Grove and Arlington Heights, Palatine, Schaumburg, Des Plaines or Mount Prospect are billed by the hour, same as one inside the village.

Worth Knowing Before Moving in Buffalo Grove

  1. Moving into an apartment building? About one Buffalo Grove home in seven is in a building of 20 or more units. Get the elevator and loading rules from the leasing office before you pick a time.
  2. Renting out the house you're leaving? The village wants a residential rental license before the first tenant moves in. It's $85 a year, and you schedule the first inspection within 30 days of applying.
  3. Selling a home that used to be a rental? Email proof of the sale to rentals@vbg.org so the village stops treating it as one.

Settling Into Buffalo Grove

Check the address first. Unincorporated Prairie View sits in two parts of the village, and a home there isn't inside Buffalo Grove.

Kensington Development Partners broke ground in 2022 on The Clove, on the old Town Center site where Buffalo Grove Road and McHenry Road meet Lake Cook. The plan was 295 apartments, with a seven-story building in phase one. Moving in? Get the move-in rules from the leasing office.

Commuting from the new place? The Buffalo Grove Metra stop, just east of Weiland Road and Deerfield Parkway, is on the North Central Service. Trains run mostly at rush hour and not on weekends, and at other times residents use the Arlington Heights or Deerfield stations.

One more. The village's permit list has no dumpster, storage container or PODS permit on it, so ask the village before you park one on the street.

How to Vet Local Movers for Buffalo Grove

  • Ask how the mover plans to get around the Dundee Road lane closures between Arlington Heights and Wheeling.
  • Get the arrival time and the crew size in the same written note.
  • Piano in the house? Say so before the quote. Piano moving is one of LD's Google categories.
  • Read the reviews that name the crew. Those are the people who showed up.

Questions About Moving in Buffalo Grove

How is a Buffalo Grove local move billed?

By the hour, for the time the crew works. There's no price figure on this page because the hours depend on the house, and three in ten Buffalo Grove homes have four bedrooms.

I'm moving within Buffalo Grove, across Lake Cook Road. Does that change the move?

Not for us. The truck doesn't care about county lines. It does change your county and your school district, so handle enrollment first.

Can you move a grand piano in Buffalo Grove?

Yes. Piano moving is one of our listed services. Betty put it this way in a review: "I was worried about moving my grand piano, but they did it flawlessly!"

Will the Dundee Road work slow my move?

Near Dundee, plan on lane closures. The village expects them daily while the work is on, with utility work into the winter and the asphalt replacement next summer. Our route to Village Hall turns north onto Arlington Heights Road after a short piece of Dundee.

What if the new place isn't ready on the day I leave?

Ask about storage in transit. It's on our service list with packing, unpacking and crates.

Do you handle long distance moves out of Buffalo Grove?

Yes, from Chicago to all 50 states. One moving coordinator runs it from inventory to delivery, and it's never handed to a broker mid route.
